PowerDNS Recursor v4.2.0 is Available

Aug 20, 2019

This summer Open-Xchange released OX PowerDNS Recursor 4.2.0. This release comes with several new and improved features as well as contributions to the DNS flagday initiative. We would like to thank all involved developers at Open-Xchange and the community!

OX PowerDNS Recursor allows Internet Service Providers to provide a fast and secure internet experience to subscribers and their traditional personal devices like laptops, tablets and mobile phones, as well as the many IoT devices that are often present in households. The high-end, high-performance caching name server delivers a reliable DNS service, provides the flexibility modern DNS deployments require and comes with a variety of DNS protection features to secure both providers and subscribers.

New features of OX PowerDNS 4.2.0 include support for improved coordination between a load balancer (like DNSdist) and the backend recursive server, increased granularity for users of EDNS client subnet, and the possibility to spawn multiple threats that will pick up incoming queries and distribute them over the worker threads.

We also implemented changes that were made in a joined effort with the broader DNS community of DNS flagday [REF dnsflagday.net/2020/] to improve interoperability between DNS services. This is part of a multi-vendor effort to move the DNS ecosystem forward by being less lenient on non-conforming implementations.

In addition, the 4.2.0 release of OX PowerDNS Recursor brings a lot of smaller changes and improvements. For more details on OX PowerDNS Recursor 4.2.0 and all-new features, please visit the PowerDNS Blog.
