The Sovereign Productivity Suite (SPS) is an initiative created by three of the best-known European Open-Source software companies, Nextcloud, Open-Xchange and Univention.

It brings together market-proven software from each of the companies, which already have millions of users, into an integrated platform specifically for the public sector.

The aim of the initiative is to offer a real Open-Source alternative to proprietary applications, which gives back complete control over digital identities, data and processes, and helps to make digital sovereignty a reality.

Nextcloud Hub is the industry-leading, fully Open-Source, on-premise team productivity platform, combining the easy user interface of consumer-grade cloud solutions with the security and compliance measures enterprises need.

Nextcloud Hub brings together universal access to data through mobile, desktop and web interfaces with next-generation, on-premise secure communication and collaboration features like real-time document editing, chat and video calls, putting them under direct control of IT and integrated with existing infrastructure.

Nextcloud’s easy and quick deployment, open, modular architecture and emphasis on security and advanced federation capabilities enable modern enterprises to leverage their existing file storage assets within and across the borders of their organization.

Open-Xchange (OX) is the leading independent email provider in the Hosting market and has been developing premium email products, secure and open communication and office productivity software, IMAP server software and DNS solutions since 2005. It has partnered with many of the largest communications companies in Europe and the US to deliver on-premise and cloud-based Open-Source email and productivity solutions to both the public and private sectors.

As an EU-based company, Open-Xchange addresses both GDPR and data sovereignty with OX App Suite and gains strength from its strong Open-Source roots. OX App Suite is a well-established and proven communication and office productivity platform – designed for some of the largest deployments in the world, its highly scalable, flexible, and resilient architecture is already being used by educational organizations in four German states.

In addition to secure email, it includes tightly integrated calendar, address book, tasks and dashboard apps that let users and groups get organized, share contacts, appointments, files etc. from a single log in.

Univention is a provider of Open-Source solutions for the operation and management of IT infrastructures and digital identities. Its guiding principle is digital sovereignty in order to ensure everyone has full sovereignty and control their own data and identities. Its core product – Univention Corporate Server (UCS) – serves as a ‘hyper-integration’ platform, with central management of all identities, a web portal for easy access to applications and the Univention App Center for the seamless integration of applications and services from third-party vendors.

By participating in the European cloud infrastructure Gaia-X and its Sovereign Cloud Stack (SCS), as well as in the Sovereign Productivity Suite (SPS), Univention is working to realize the modernization of IT infrastructure for the public sector, as well as for private companies.

With UCS @ school, Univention offers a platform optimized for digital education with central identity management and the simple provision of services from third-party vendors, such as learning management systems, email, cloud and office applications for schools, school authorities and federal states via their own school portals. UCS and UCS @ school are used by a number of federal states, and a range of municipalities and districts, administrations and companies.
